Starting Friday Dec. 2nd 2011, we will be taking orders for our "Bake at Home" frozen cookie dough. This will allow you to take home B. Goods cookies and bake them fresh for you and your HUNGRY family this festive season.

The Varieties:

All of our varieties are available in the "Bake @ Home" format, including all three of our Gluten Free varieties. Minimum quantities apply for all varieties equally and are set at 12 pieces per variety, minimum of 24 pieces for delivery.

The Delivery:

We deliver within the Greater Ottawa area 6 days a week and will deliver these goods personally (inside Greenbelt) at no extra charge. Deliveries outside this area are subject to a $4 delivery charge and may be postponed up to 2 days for better delivery grouping. Check to see if deliveries are available in your area.
Deliveries begin on the 2nd of December. Delivery times vary during the day and will be set based on the day and the delivery region. The time will be confirmed by email after order confirmation is received.
If you expect that you may not be home during the allotted time a cooler on the porch and chq in the mail box is sufficient.

Payment:

Payment can be accepted by either cash or chq on delivery, or immediately by PayPal (see bottom of the page for embedded PayPal option)

As soon as we receive your order by either email (cash and chq) or by PayPal (see below) with your delivery address in the email or in the notes of PayPal, we will respond with a delivery time and date. Please include a contact number with your order so you can be reached. Please allow for a minimum of 48hrs between order and delivery timing.

One of our long standing and very special wholesale accounts, Nature's Buzz, will be Re-Opening early this December at a new location, 55 Beechwood Ave, just over one block east of its old spot. They were sadly one of the multitude of businesses that were destroyed by a fire on Beechwood in March of this year. Recipe Bloopers

Over the years I have been asked for a recipe for print sources and whenever possible we provide one. Twice now fate has not been on the side of the "recipe reader" out there. I have had errors in two print editions of this cookie and its instruction. It is one of my favorites and I know it's one of yours so here it is in full, for your use.

Today I have two pertinent things to tell you about, hence the Posting Title.

The Glossy Spread

This coming Sunday B. Goods (a bakery) will be featured in the Style Magazine insert of the Ottawa Citizen (@ottawacitizen). A writer from the magazine contacted me with an article idea that she was putting together on food trucks in Ottawa. I happily obliged and am looking forward to reading the piece. Thanks again to Jenn Cox (@wordaddict914) for all her hard work on the piece.

The Trashy Prizes

As of March I began attending a special evening at a local bar here in Ottawa. The event combines humor, socializing, prizes, kitsch, and celebrity gossip. It's called Trailer Park Bingo and it's held every Sunday evening from 10pm onwards at the formidable Zaphod Beeblebox (@zaphods_ottawa). B. Goods (a bakery) began sponsoring this event in July and have been rewarding peoples bingo skills and luck with the likes of T-shirts and 6pks of cookies. We have also done a front door Cookie-Trailer Park Bingo-Sampling and plan on doing more in the future.

2 Festivals done... + more places to get the Goods

Since we've posted last... things have happened. Lots of things. Lots of great things.

Here are a few of the things.

We have a few brand new places where our cookies are being sold.
"Firstly" is the cafe called La Belle Verte in Gatineau. It's located right in the downtown core of Hull Sector. Amazing sandwiches and spreads and now they are carrying our Cookies!
Secondly is Gypsy and Company, the Vintage Clothing Store and Cafe located near the corner of Gilmour and Elgin Streets.
Lastly we have the new Cafe that is paired with the Sandy Hill People Food Coop, TAN Coffee. The cookies are just one of the treats that they have available to go with their coffee.

In other news, we have finished two amazing festivals here in Ottawa. Between June 23 and July 3 we delivered fresh coffee to the masses at the Ottawa Jazz festival in Confederation Park. Shortly thereafter (as in one day later) we began slinging all our mobile cafe wares at the Ottawa Blues Festival (July 5-17). Both of these events were a great success and have left us craving more music festivals.... Just not all of them back to back! You will also find us a the Ottawa Folk Festival (August 25-28, 2011) and the Capital Pride Festival (August 28, 2011).

Another event that we regularly attend in Ottawa is the House of Paint event. This event is a multidisciplinary HipHop celebration. The Main Event was this last weekend (August 7, 2011) and showcased, among other things, local and national graffiti artists. We are and always have been a bakery in a truck. This presents a unique challenge since graffiti tends to find its way onto trucks quite often. We have, since our beginnings, tried to combat this with the use of our tailgate as a Mobile Legal Graffiti wall. Over the years we have had many pieces on our truck tailgate, and we find that this has, for the most part, helped in deterring unwanted graffiti. I am a big fan of all of the pieces that have graced the truck, all of which took a lot of care and attention to produce.

Ottawa Bluesfest gets a caffeine boost.

Over the many years I have been attending (and scoping out) Ottawa's Bluesfest, I have not seen a note worthy coffee provider. This observation has contributed to our decision to bring our Mobile Cafe to Le Breton Flats between July 5th and the 17th for this Goliath of a festival. It's been a long decision process but we are confident that the people want great coffee.

This being said we also realize that the idea of getting an exceptional coffee at Ottawa Bluesfest has not been something that the attendees have expected; therefore we need to EDUCATE everyone. Our truck and mobile cafe will be located at the second vending area west of the main stage. This is the vending area that allows vendors to offer a larger variety of products and options. It will give us the chance to make your coffee just the way you like it. Cappuccino, Latte, Mochacino, Espresso long or short. You name it and we can make it.

We hope to see lots of familiar faces and plenty of new ones at our first venture into the churning bowl of music, food and hopefully sunshine that is Ottawa Bluesfest.

This past weekend I was very happy to attend Vegfest 2011 at the Glebe Community Centre. There, I met two great people (who are also two prominent Ottawa food bloggers).

@foodieprints was there and introduced themselves. Then like a great food life archivist they began snapping photos. I'm happy to be featured in the latest photo set and to have been mentioned in the preemptive blog post on Vegfest 2011 (both to follow).
Hats off to them for being out in our fair city making it even brighter than it already is for food.

Spring in the bakery sees new growth

After a little adventure holiday, we at B. Goods have returned to work with a determination and vengeance.

As of a few Friday's ago we began to sell on the other side of the river in Gatineau and Hull. You can now find our goods at the La Boite a Grains Hull and Gatineau locations. We are very happy to able to provide our fresh baked goodness to La Belle Provence on a daily basis.

Well all you interweb tech people, it's been four weeks since we started tweeting and it's been wonderful. We hope you've all been following along with @bgoodsbakery.

Over the last few weeks I've realized that twitter is really all about networking, and as one of the most prominent tweeters I know said "following the leader".

That said I need to give credit where credit is due, @wtl, @elkae, and @ecotav have been monumental in helping me get twitter savvy. Follow the leaders.

As of today we will be starting a trivia with prizes game on Twitter. The premise is I ask you a question regarding B. Goods and you provide the answer. This is made all that much better by the fact that the winners will receive free cookies delivered to your door. #followforfreebies (that is what they call a twitter hashtag ;))

In sampling news we will be doing a sampling next Thursday at the Natural Food Pantry (@NatrlFoodPantry) in Billings Bridge (@Billings_Bridge). On friday we will be sampling out the goodness at Nicastro's on Bank st.

So I will keep this simple since I am currently at a sampling now and really should be telling people about how our cookies are certified delicious.

We got a twitter account....gonna use it on the regular we hope. Find us @bgoodsbakery. As far as I know this type of instant info makes the masses happy, so I will accommodate. Updates will include the varieties of cookies baked that day and the location of samplings. Maybe other tidbits of pertinent info. We will see.

We are sampling like mad this week and next in an attempt to help people from making the horrible choice of cutting cookies out of their diet as a new years resolution.

I have recently returned from a short but well used trip to a subtropical climate, hence the absence. Now that I have returned and got my bearings re-sorted I am going to be arranging for a few samplings for next week. I will post them here as soon as I have them scheduled.

Enjoying this amazing weather we are all experiencing here in Ottawa helps to remind me of some the differences between being self employed, and employed.
Both situations have their positive and negative points, sometimes in complete contradiction to themselves. As a self employed individual, I am said to have "no boss". Good point, and true, but to be held accountable to everyone of my wholesale accounts for their scheduled deliveries essentially lands me with numerous "bosses". That doesn't even take into account being responsible to the public who are expecting high quality items baked fresh daily. Cant let them down.
Another supposed benefit of being in business for your self is the freedom to make your own hours when you so please. This is a blessing and a bain. Managing a self run business has plenty of challenges not least of which is remaining motivated to get out and accomplish and create new work. If you have trouble motivating your self, this benefit can become a challenge. To my own chagrin spent my second winter in business doing just as much as I needed to to get by and not much more. A spectacular privilege but the budget felt the repercussions!!
All this said, I am happy to be self-employed but have a serious appreciation for the "freedom" of being able to go to work and leave it there, and to be able to count on that pay-cheque even if that month.... you were just was not that into it.

Festivals, Markets and Samplings to Boot!

Hello all good Cookie people,

Today I thought I would take the time to update you all on the status of our upcoming engagements for the year where it is possible for you to buy directly from us. Every year we do our best to select some the festivals where we think that our product will fit in at.

This year we have arranged to be at the following festivals:

Veg Fest - an NCVA event

(Table is still TBD - but as an added bonus I will be doing a cookie baking demo and will keep you all updated)

We will also be doing our best to get out to all the spots where you are getting our goods about town to do a sampling or two and we will try to get in a few Saturday and Sunday samplings for all you 9-5ers.

I know, this is a busy schedule to be planning but I wouldn't have my warm season any other way. From a business perspective, if well planned, being very busy can bring about a great sense accomplishment for your work. This, I fell, is very necessary when in the initial stages of growing and sustaining a business. You need to feel like what you are doing is wanted and needed. Without that recognition (even if only from yourself) then your only motivation to continue running a business is money, and that is anything but a commonly seen motivator in the early stages of most!

Bake Sale Benefit for Haiti

Here follows the full list of cookies that B. Goods produces. Although we do have 3 gluten free items our facility is not gluten free so we cannot guarantee that there has not been contact. Also on that note we are willing to make almost any of our cookies gluten free on special order (see sidebar).

As I mentioned I am going to update on life/business related issues. Today I am heading down to register for french language training. This, for me, is necessary because I did not fully learn the french language in the 10 years I spent studying it in Ontario's grade school and high school system. It is pertinent to my business due to our proximity in Ottawa to the city of Gatineau, QC. I do see a potential for accounts in that city and would like to be able to offer our linguisticly elegant neighbors to the north a few accounts by the summer or fall.
French language skills are also very important in Ottawa's Festival Network (of which I am regullarly present at Jazz, Folk, Rideau Canal and Pride) as you are required by most contracts to have a bilingual staff member on hand at all time. Either you pay someone to speak french or you pay your self to learn french!
All that said, I am also very excited to not be excluded from conversaations that my french friends and acquaintences are having and at the low low price of $200 per session I fell I am getting a bargain.

Hello all,

Welcome to the first incarnations of my non-Facebook online presence. I realize that there will need to be something just a little bit different about this page so I will attempt to highlight some of the more interesting realities of being in business for ones self - including unexpected occurrences that threaten your sanity, strategic successes that make life easier and the merits of learning to balance the Work/Social/Family existences.

On this Blog I will slowly add pictures and make sure to list sampling when ever they are sure to happen. You here will also be the first learn of special events that I plan on attending with the bakery and the mobile cafe.

I hope for a weekly update but that will be dependent on baking and my life managing skills. Stay tuned shortly for a detailed list of the stores that are currently carrying the B. goods cookies including their delivery days. Also shortly the complete list of B. Goods products (cookies only at this point).
